Introducing Connecting East

Hello and welcome to the University of York! We hope you’ve had an amazing Freshers week and had fun while getting involved with our wildlife & bat walks with Maria from St Nicks.

Photo taken by Tom Emmerson, overall winner of our photography competition last year.

For those of you who are still unsure, Connecting East is a Campus East based project aiming to connect people with each other through the local environment and community. If you are interested in the environment, sustainability, nature, wildlife, and/or photography, then Connecting East is here to help you connect with other people who have similar interests!

We are a new initiative that only started in the last academic year, and some of our activities from last year included: wildlife walks with St Nicks, habitat creations, gardening in raised beds, local litter picks, photography workshops and competitions, as well as documentary nights. Find yourself interested in some or most of them? That’s great because we’re going to be running them and plenty more this year!

This term we’re already planning to run some of those photography workshops, local litter picks and indoor herb planting sessions, as well as a workshop were we can put together some bird houses to put up around our wonderful campus! Keep your eyes peeled for more information on this blog, our Facebook page, and through our newsletter.

We hope that you’re excited for the fun year ahead of you and we look forward to seeing you at some of our events!
